On Friday, December 12, the Saint-Martin gendarmerie celebrated Saint Genevieve, its patron saint and protector, during a military ceremony organized in the Galisbay parking lot. A solemn occasion marked by respect for traditions, recognition of the commitment of staff and a reminder of the founding values of the institution.
The ceremony took place in the presence of several high-ranking civil and military authoritiesincluding Lieutenant General Pierre Poty, commander of the overseas gendarmerie, Major General Sylvain Noyau, commander of the national unit of judicial policeDuring a visit to the overseas territories, the Attorney General of the Basse-Terre Court of Appeal, Éric Maurel, the Secretary General of the Prefecture, Fabrice Thibier, and Colonel Hugues Loyez, Commander of the SXM-SBH Gendarmerie, recalled in his speech:We are the impartial guardians of the law, free from prejudice and devoted solely to the people”. Cadets from the gendarmerie and representatives from the Veterans Association were also present.
Recognized head of the French Gendarmerie since 1962, Sainte-Genevieve She embodies courage, vigilance, and dedication to the people. A major figure in French history, she still symbolizes today the protection of the most vulnerable and the ability to act decisively in times of crisis. This gathering was an opportunity to recognize several gendarmes for their careers and commitment. François Zimmer, second-in-command of COMGED SXM-SBH, received the National Order of Meritwhile three military medals were handed over to Major Hervé Quintard, Major Valérie Jacques and Chief Warrant Officer Cyril Clercrewarding long and exemplary careers in the service of the gendarmerie.
