Faced with the resurgence of scooter offenses and their involvement in certain criminal activities, the Sint Maarten Police (KPSM) conducted, on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 October, a large-scale control operation targeting motorized two-wheelers.
Deployed at several strategic points on the island between noon and 22 p.m., these operations aimed to both strengthen road safety by checking the compliance of drivers' documents and to disrupt criminal activities carried out using scooters.
In total, Forty drivers were stopped for checks. Among them, Twenty-four were unable to present the documents. required to move legally. One person was also arrested for possession of narcotics in violation of the legislation on prohibited substances. The controls were supported by the Voluntary Corps of Sint Maarten (VKS), mobilized alongside the police.
This action is part of the continuity of operations carried out earlier in the year, particularly near the Simpson Bay Bridge. For this new device, KPSM has chosen other locations in order to anticipate the movements of offenders seeking to circumvent controls.
Scooters remain an aggravating factor in several serious crimes and road accidents. The KPSM announces that it will continue its efforts to ensure safety and restore order on public roads, urging all owners and drivers to register, insure, and maintain their vehicles in accordance with the law.
