SINT MAARTEN / Road safety: numerous scooters seized during checks | FAXINFO

Sint Maarten Police (KPSM) reports on a a significant number of scooters and motorcycles recently impounded following increased roadside checks carried out across the country. These operations, conducted over the past few weeks, are part of a a comprehensive approach to improving road safety and to reduce risks on the island’s busiest roads.
 
According to the police, the vehicles in question mainly presented… administrative or regulatory shortcomingsThe absence of required documents, invalid insurance, unsuitable driver’s licenses, and technical non-conformities are among the reasons that led to the immediate impoundment of scooters. These irregularities constitute a potential danger to drivers themselves as well as to other road users.
KPSM clarifies that The owners of the seized vehicles are currently being asked to come in person to the police station to retrieve their scooters.subject to providing all required documents and demonstrating that any violations have been corrected. This step is a prerequisite for any restitution.
Law enforcement officials, however, warn that These vehicles will not be kept indefinitely.Scooters not claimed within the specified timeframe will be subject to destruction or transfer proceedings, subject to authorization from the competent judicial authorities. Checks will continue in the coming weeks.
