Alerted to search for two missing fishermen, the SNS 129 launch finally provided assistance on the evening of August 28 to a sailboat with engine failure off the coast of Grand-Case. Two Quebec sailors were able to be brought to safety.

The alert was given early in the evening by the CROSS, worried about the lack of news of a small fishing boat. Four volunteers from the SNSM station in Saint-Martin, under the command of their captain, immediately set sail at 19:30 p.m. towards Uproar, the usual departure area for the fishermen concerned. At 20:02 p.m., the CROSS confirmed that the two men had finally returned to dry land, ending the search mission.

On the way back, the crew of the SNS 129 chose to check the position and proper functioning of the light beacons from Grand-Case airport. Around 20:38 p.m., light signals caught their attention at sea. A ten-meter sailboat, registered in Quebec, was trying as best it could to move. On board, two women were trying to tow their private motorboat with a simple dinghy.

A rescuer then came on board to ensure the maneuver and the towing the sailboat to a safe anchorage areaAt 21:07 p.m., the boat was safe and its two occupants were out of danger.

This intervention illustrates once again the availability and vigilance of the volunteers of the SNSM, whose commitment remains essential for the safety of sailors and boaters in Saint-Martin waters.
