SOCIETY: Immersion in the Saint-Martin Territorial Youth Council (CTJSM) | FAXINFO

On Wednesday, July 9, the members of this special council, composed of 23 elected members from the region's middle and high schools, met at the Hôtel de la Collectivité to hold their first plenary session, along with the 3th Vice President Dominique Démocrite Louisy.

This two-hour session in the deliberation room was impressive. Chaired by Klohé Francillette, a remarkable orator, the session covered all the social issues important to the area. The young members were able to propose large-scale projects for and in support of local youth.

"The CTJ is a space for civic participation aimed at young people aged 14 to 25. It allows young people to actively contribute to the life of the region. For example, this year, we were able to work on several projects with the Youth Parliament on the Dutch side," explains the young President of the Council.

Each project was presented and then submitted to the elected youth members for a vote of "for," "against," and "abstention." Among these initiatives, several stood out for their strong inclusiveness and solidarity. For example, one high school member suggested collaborating with the island's beach cleanup associations to include young people. Daphné FM, another member, remotely proposed a food collection project for students in Saint-Martin with the help of the ALEFPA-le Manteau association.

Indeed, the latter rightly argues in its text that there is assistance for young people going to study abroad but very little for those who wish to remain in the country, or who have no other choice.

A first plenary session which illustrated in many ways the seriousness, sincere will and strong commitment of these young people to their territory. _THERE
