
Le Territorial Olympic and Sports Committee of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin (CTOS SBSM) held, on Saturday, January 31, the second edition of its Champions Eveningat the Grand Case Beach Club. A ceremony designed for to highlight volunteer and community investment, a pillar of local sports development.
Opening the evening, the president of CTOS SBSM, Virginie Carien, emphasized the educational and human impact of sport, reminding everyone that Olympic values extend far beyond the realm of competition. Respect for the rules, referees, and opponents, the ability to win without crushing the other, but also friendship and openness to other cultures formed the common thread of this edition: “Through your journeys, you convey a powerful message: Sport is a school of life”.
The institutional speakers echoed this sentiment. Marc Gérald Ménard, the elected official in charge of sports, praised those who work alongside the champions, emphasizing that without their commitment, no sports project could ever see the light of day. Harry Christophe, vice-rector, mentioned a territory of championsdriven by youth investment and educational partnerships. Corinne Juhel, the prefect’s delegate for urban policy, emphasized sport as tool for social transformation, inclusion and citizenship.
Olympic values as a leitmotif
Five categories of trophies, symbolizing the Olympic rings, set the rhythm of the ceremony.
The black ring, dedicated to civic engagement, awarded Brigitte Cocks (Speedy Plus), Pierre Doranges (UNSS Sailing), Franck Gendrey (football), Cathy Gamiette (athletics) and Rolando Lake (cycling), all recognized for their work in promoting transmission, training and inclusion.
The green ring, associated with fair play, distinguished Nicolas Mathis (basketball), Stan Eblé at the age of 10 (rugby), Dalia Romulus (athletics), Lyse Saint-Martin (beach-volley) and Lou Villemin (beach-tennis), for their exemplary conduct on and off the field.
Commitment within the clubs, symbolized by the blue ringIn the adult categories, trophies were awarded to Christian and Danielle Noël (tennis), Shermon and Naomie Maccow (football – Juventus), Martine Boudine (Handynamique), Soline Duffieux (Company Ö & Co), and Valérie Priat (KKO Beach Tennis). In the youth categories, trophies went to Pedrie Sinitambirivoutin (Junior Stars), Junisio Brooks Lake (cycling), Charlotte Martinez (beach tennis), Merlin Guerrier (UNSS Sailing), and Mei Marchisella (gymnastics).
The yellow ring, dedicated to inclusion, honored Handynamique, Karaté Oyama SXM, the UNSS sailing club and the RCM Ballers, for their actions in favor of shared sports practice and the welcoming of people with disabilities.
the red ring, dedicated to social and environmental commitment, awarded Archiball, Company Ö & Co, Juventus de Saint-Martin, USEP Les Tigres d’Orléans and KKO Beach Tennis, praised for their solidarity, educational and eco-responsible actions.
Made from recycled materials, the trophies reflected the spirit of the evening: a sport that is meaningful, inclusive and profoundly humanEach winner received a goody bag, including a gift certificate for a sports store or for making T-shirts printed with their association’s logo. A thoughtful gesture, perfectly in keeping with this celebration of those who, behind the scenes, keep the Olympic ideal alive every day.
