GREAT BAY--Young St. Maarten baseball player Julian King is continuing to make steady progress in his pursuit of a higher-level baseball career, with his latest opportunity taking him to North Carolina to compete in the Old North State League.
King traveled to North Carolina after returning from several invitational games in the Dominican Republic in March. The opportunity to join the Old North State League was introduced to him by Coach Johnny Johnson, who was part of the St. Maarten Babe Ruth Baseball travel team that competed in the Bahamas in 2022.
The Old North State League consists of 24 teams, with each team scheduled to play 40 games during a season that runs for approximately two and a half months. The top teams advance to the playoffs at the end of the regular season.
King is playing for the Cape Fear Ghost Crabs, where he continues to build his versatility by playing both infield and outfield. His participation in the league gives him valuable exposure to a competitive collegiate baseball environment and allows him to continue developing against strong opposition.
The latest step comes after a period of consistent growth for King, who has been training and competing internationally as he works toward his goal of advancing in baseball. His time in the Dominican Republic, followed by his move to North Carolina, reflects the continued effort to place him in environments where he can be seen, tested and developed.
King has also recently received several college opportunities, including partial scholarship offers and full-ride scholarship offers from NCAA colleges. These offers mark a major development in his young career and show that his work is beginning to attract serious attention from programs in the United States.
For King, the focus remains on continuing to improve, gaining experience, and making the most of every opportunity on the field. His journey also represents a proud moment for St. Maarten baseball, as another young athlete from the island is being recognized beyond local competition.
