The scene was meant to be romantic, but it went viral for entirely different reasons. In mid-January, during a concert of the indie rock band Bootleg Rascal in Brisbane, AustraliaA fan interrupted the show to propose to his girlfriendA spectacular initiative, but one whose outcome took everyone by surprise: the young woman said no.
In widely shared video On social media, we see the man inviting his partner to join him on stage. Visibly uncomfortableShe hesitates, even tries to make him come down, before he falls to his knees. The response is unequivocal: a negative nod, then a hasty departure before the eyes of a stunned audience. He remains alone, frozen, visibly in shock.
The band’s singer, Carlos Lara, confided that he had been deeply embarrassed by the situation. The fan had, however, taken care to contact his favorite group beforehand to organize this surprise requestNo one could have imagined such an outcome. Touched by the unfortunate situation, the members of Bootleg Rascal then offered their support to the jilted suitor, giving him some beers and merchandise to try and ease the pain. Despite this painful episode, the band says they remain open to other marriage proposals at future concerts, simply hoping for a happier ending.
