USM Information Session Draws Strong Turnout | Soualiganewsday

SINT MAARTEN (POND ISLAND) - The University of St. Martin (USM) welcomed prospective students, parents, and community members to a well-attended Information Session on Wednesday evening, June 17, where attendees had the opportunity to explore the many educational pathways available at the university.  Representatives from the Caribbean Foundation Year (CFY) Program, GED, English as a Second Language (ESL), Associate Degree Programs, Bachelor's Degree Programs, as well as the USM Business Office, provided presentations and answered questions regarding admissions requirements, tuition options, payment plans, and career opportunities.  Throughout the evening, attendees engaged directly with division heads, faculty members, coordinators, and Admissions Officer Stacey James, gaining valuable information to help guide their academic and professional goals. Several prospective students also took advantage of the opportunity to begin and complete their applications for the August 2026 intake.  According to Head of Marketing Shobhan Giterson, the event highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for students and families to connect directly with faculty, support staff, and the admissions team. "It was encouraging to see the level of interest and engagement from students and parents throughout the evening. Many persons left with a better understanding of the opportunities available at USM and with a clearer vision of the next steps in their educational journey. “We are grateful to everyone who took the time to attend and to our division heads, coordinators, Admissions Officer Stacey James, Counselor Dr. Carole Joseph, the Business Office, and staff behind the scenes who helped make the event a success.  “One of the messages I shared with attendees is that there is absolutely nothing wrong with starting your academic journey at home. USM provides students with the foundation, confidence, and support they need to excel at the tertiary level and in the workplace. “Students can strengthen their skills, mature academically, and even save financially before venturing out into the world. Whether your goal is a single course, a certificate, an associate degree, or a bachelor's degree, USM offers pathways that allow students to climb the academic ladder one step at a time. Success does not happen overnight, and sometimes the best place to build that foundation is right here at home," Giterson stated.  USM also looks forward to participating in the upcoming Job Fair organized by the Department of Labor and Social Services under the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labor (VSA). Representatives from the university will be available to provide information on professional development opportunities, short courses, certificates, and degree programs designed to help individuals advance their skills and achieve their educational and career goals.  Applications for the August 2026 intake remain open.
