After a yellow vigilance report for heavy rains and thunderstorms and strong winds issued last Sunday at the very beginning of the morning to make way for orange vigilance concerning the rains in the afternoon, the return to calm was announced this Monday, August 21 at 6 a.m.

In its monitoring bulletin, Météo France announces the end of the climatic event which saw incessant torrents of rain pour into the territory of Saint-Martin on August 20, causing floods in different sectors and making traffic difficult. The rainy-stormy area, which became Storm Franklin, moved away in the Caribbean Sea and conditions on the Northern Islands improved rapidly overnight from Sunday to Monday. The trend was therefore improving yesterday even if some heavy showers are still possible in the afternoon in a localized way, due to a weak wind. Storm Gert, located 800 km to the east, will quickly weaken and pose no threat to Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy. The data observed during the episode of heavy rains and thunderstorms were recorded in 12 hours: 99mm in Marigot including 50mm in one hour, 71mm in Grand-Case including 25mm in one hour, 52mm in Gustavia including 15mm in one hour and 46mm in Saint Jean. The gusts of wind were not lacking with 71km/h recorded in Grand-Case, 81km/h in Saint-Jean and 92km/h at the Gustavia weather station. _Vx
