60 volunteers from ‘Over The Edge Global’ assist 8 local NGOs | SOUALIGA NEWSDAY

SINT MAARTEN (PHILIPSBURG) – Last week over 60 volunteers from Over The Edge Global helped 8 local NGOs by volunteering their time while on corporate retreat in St. Maarten.

Over The Edge Global is a North American company based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada that supports non-profit organizations by helping them raise money and mission awareness by hosting rappelling fundraising events. Since 2008, they have helped non-profits around the world raise over $100 Million.

As a token of appreciation to its staff CEO and Founder Paul Griffith, invited his entire team to participate in the company retreat on St. Maarten.  “Giving back is core to our culture and it rallies our team behind powerful missions and experiences that make a difference in every community and with every individual we engage” said Griffith.

Over the Edge took time out of its busy corporate agenda to ensure the team could volunteer on St. Maarten one afternoon.

After meeting Sjorensly Valies, Board member of Foresee (4C) Foundation and the recent recipient of the environmental Crystal Pineapple award, Over The Edge decided to work with 4C and its latest project, NPOwer, to volunteer with a number of local Non-profit projects.

With the assistance of EPIC, NSF, Holistic Retreat, Freegan Food Foundation, the Waste Factory, Excellence Learning Academy and the White & Yellow Cross Care Foundation more than 60 Over The Edge volunteers went around the island and assisted in the cleaning of hiking trails, gardening, swimming with children, making art from waste, doing maintenance jobs, preparing meals from waste food and playing board games with seniors.

The local NGOs were very appreciative for the help as it really assisted their organization and its clients/members. The volunteers were excited to meet with the St. Maarten organizations. They all enjoyed their afternoon and could not stop talking about their experiences, according to Karen Wolff, Director Client Experience for Over The Edge who now resides in St Maarten.

As a final appreciation Sue and Paul Griffith gifted $100.00 USD on behalf of each volunteer. The 8 NGO’s will each receive their portion of the $6,000.00 gifted by the Griffith’s and Over The Edge Global.
