61-year old dies in Saint-Martin of COVID-19. Confirmed cases climb to 18 | SOUALIGA NEWSDAY

SAINT-MARTIN (MARIGOT) – The Prefecture of Saint-Barths and Saint Martin, the director-general of Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin and Saint-Maarten and the management of the Louis Constant Fleming hospital, announced on Sunday afternoon the first death in Saint-Martin in connection with the coronavirus epidemic.  The number of COVID-19 cases on French Saint-Martin have also increased by four (4) to 18; hospitalization has increased to nine (9) or +2.

One week after a public road accident, a 61-year-old Saint-Martin resident patient was having breathing distress at his home on March 25, 2020 He was taken care of and moved to the hospital emergency at Louis Constant Fleming hospital with respect to the protection of health and health personnel in the context of suspected COVID-19, the statement from the Prefecture said.

Additional tests have revealed a complicated comorbidity around the consequences of the trauma. He sadly passed away despite the care on March 26, 2020 in the morning. The result of the of diagnosis test came back positive on March 27, 2020.

Death is multifactorial but the COVID-19 infection was most likely a defining factor. The investigation around this case is being carried out by Public Health France to identify contact cases.

The Prefecture is calling on the people of French Saint-Martin to more than ever, stay at home, only go out in case of absolute necessity, respect the measures that have been put in place by the authorities!

The Prefecture says they continue to call for solidarity from everyone in order to apply and respect national instructions.
