A HEAVY RAINFALL ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 6PM TODAY UNTIL 12PM WEDNESDAY, JULY 31 | SOUALIGA NEWSDAY

SINT MAARTEN (SIMPSON BAY-AIRPORT) – The Meteorological Department of Sint Maarten (MDS) on Tuesday evening issued a special bulletin with respect to weather conditions. MDS reports that convection associated with an approaching tropical wave is expected to begin affecting our already unstable local atmosphere by this evening (Tuesday).

“This will likely produce periods of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms along with gusty winds. Some of these showers could be heavy at times. Due to already saturated soils from recent rainfall, flooding, rock fall and/or landslides remain a threat in vulnerable areas.

“Residents and motorists in these areas are advised to be exercise caution when in these areas and/or avoid them whenever possible.”

Definitions: A Special Bulletin is issued for weather events that are unusual, cause general inconvenience or public concern (requiring the attention and/or action of fire department and police authorities) and cannot adequately be described in a regular weather forecast.
