SINT MAARTEN (POND ISLAND) – The next major regional-international conference that Sint Maarten will be hosting will kick-off in less than a week.
Speakers from all kinds of professions are lining up to attend and speak at the 4th Dutch Caribbean AML (Anti-Money Laundering) & Gaming Regulation Forum that will take place from June 4-7 at the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort, Casino and Spa at Maho.
Minister of Tourism & Economic Affairs Stuart Johnson said on Tuesday that the country will be in the spotlight once again when it hosts the 4th Dutch Caribbean AML & Gaming Regulation Forum.
“We are proud to be the hosts of this very important Forum where there will be a number of interesting speakers who come from various backgrounds. We look forward to welcoming them to destination Sint Maarten.
“All Training Sessions, Workshops, Debates and Discussions will be led by international experts who will address global regulatory standards and strategies to reduce the risk of criminal activity and increase compliance & transparency,” Hon. Minister Stuart Johnson said on Tuesday.
Maureen Williamson, one of the speakers at next week’s Forum, has been in gaming either as a regulator, attorney or operational consultant for more than thirty years. Her areas of expertise include the drafting of enabling legislation and operating regulations, design and evaluation of systems of internal control, technical standards for emerging technologies including iGaming, facility development, feasibility determinations and the drafting and implementation of consulting, development and management agreements.
Cheryl Bazard, another speaker at the Forum, is a former Senator of the Bahamas and currently is practising as an attorney and barrister-at-law. She has decades of experience in Compliance and Regulatory Affairs within the area of Financial Crime and Money Laundering. Cheryl is the founder of the Bahamas Association of Compliance Officers (BACO) and is currently serving as their chair.
Another speaker for next week is Keith Whyte, Executive Director of the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) in Washington, D.C. He has over nineteen years of national experience in gaming and problem gambling issues. Recognized widely for his work on gaming policy, Whyte has presented on gambling issues in 39 US states and 14 countries. He has testified before the United States Congress four times and appeared before numerous state legislative and regulatory bodies.
The Government of Sint Maarten via the Ministry of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Traffic and Telecommunications (TEATT) and GovRisk, a UK-based Training & Consultancy specialising in Financial Crime Prevention and Anti-Corruption, are the organizers of the Forum which will promote compliance, Anti-Money Laundering, New technologies and Exploring the Future of Business Risk.
