Customs confiscates 50 packages with cocaine at airport | SOUALIGA NEWSDAY

SINT MAARTEN (SIMPSON BAY-AIRPORT) – On Wednesday, December 18th 2019, during a routine control of the passengers disembarking off of Copa airlines, 50 packages with a gross weight of 9,500 grams containing cocaïne hidden away in the cover of books was intercepted and confiscated, the Sint Maarten Customs Department said in a statement on Thursday.

The officers discovered the narcotics after a secondary control. They grew suspicious of a passenger during their routine interview while physically searching her suitcases.

After the bust, the passenger, a female Brazilian national with the initials J.C.M. was detained by the Customs officers for further questioning and to continue their investigation pertaining to the origin and destination of said narcotics.
It should be noted that although a suspect, the passenger is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Due to the ongoing investigation no further information can be given at this time.​
