SINT MAARTEN (PHILIPSBURG) – On September 3, 2019, His Excellency Governor Eugene Holiday paid a working visit to a number of the emergency shelters on the island to obtain a firsthand view of the level of hurricane preparedness.
The Governor visited the First Christian Fellowship Church, Milton Peters College, Dutch Quarter Community Center and lastly a Transitional-shelter in Sucker Garden. During this visit the Governor was shown how the shelters will be put to use in case of a natural disaster.
His Excellency also received an update on the state of repairs of the shelters from Ministry VROMI. The visit was coordinated by Emergency Support Group 7 (ESF-7) representatives from Social Services headed by Ministry Public Health, Social Development and Labour (VSA) Secretary General Joy Arnell. ESF-7 is responsible for evacuation, shelter, relief and mass care within the disaster management organization.
