Minister of Justice and Cabinet Staff do not currently have COVID-19 Symptoms | SOUALIGA NEWSDAY

SINT MAARTEN (POND ISLAND) – A notice issued by the cabinet of the Ministry of Justice states that: “In the Daily Herald’s newspaper published today, September 23, 2020, an article mistakenly states that the Honourable Minister of Justice Anna E. Richardson and her cabinet staff members are all experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.

“Minister Richardson and members of the Justice cabinet, who are currently quarantining at home after one of our colleagues tested positive for COVID-19, do not currently have any COVID-19 symptoms.

“Since becoming aware of the newspaper’s mistake, the Cabinet has been in contact with the Daily Herald and a retraction and correction have since been published.  Apologies have also been expressed by the newspaper to Minister Richardson and her cabinet for the error.

“The last day at work for the staff member who has tested positive, was on Thursday, September 17. On Monday, September 21st, this staff member was contacted by Collective Prevention Services (CPS) who confirmed that they have tested positive for COVID-19.

“The staff member then then immediately communicated this to the Minister and the cabinet staff were then advised by CPS to quarantine at home for the next fourteen days. As a result, the cabinet offices of Justice have been thoroughly sanitized.

“Minister Richardson is encouraging everyone to stay healthy and to continue to take the necessary precautions to remain safe.”
