SINT MAARTEN (PHILIPSBURG) – Minister of Public Housing, Environment, Spatial Development and Infrastructure (Ministry of VROMI), Christopher Wever was recently invited to the monthly green initiatives meeting to be briefed and updated on projects the group is working on.
Consisting of 16 groups, the Minister was introduced to those present and the initiatives they are working on and discussed possible future collaboration. The Minister also used the opportunity to inform the group about the upcoming clean-up/recycling campaign from government which will be launching soon.
The Minister was also briefed on the results of Environmental Protection in the Caribbean (EPIC) Sint Maarten’s lagoon valuation study as well as the Call for Action launched by the green initiatives to ban single-use plastic from St. Maarten.
The collaboration of groups started meeting in February 2019 and created Green Initiatives as a platform for NGO’s and individuals who work towards sustainable solutions for the island to network, collaborate and support each other.
