SINT MAARTEN (POND ISLAND-DCOMM) – The National Employment Services Center (NESC) hosted a series of Business Enhancement Workshops during the year 2019. These workshops were organized for SME’S, however larger companies were also welcome to attend.
The objectives of the Business Enhancement Workshops is to share knowledge with business representatives and leaders, to create awareness and offer tips on enhancing business operations. Furthermore, these workshops offer attendees the opportunity to develop new professional relationships for personal and business growth through networking.
During the first workshop, information was presented regarding tax compliance and SZV Medical Coverage. SZV and Grant Thornton representatives provided information on their services and the importance of being compliant as a business owner by emphasizing the penalties associated with non-compliance.
The second workshop focused on Employment Permits and Corporate Social Responsibility. Participants received information on the employment permit process including, the appeal process in the event a permit is denied. The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) presentation focused on ethical business practices and ways to incorporate CSR in daily business operations.
The emphasis of the final workshop for 2019 concentrated on Human Resources Management and the Duties & Responsibilities of employers. The topics of discussion presented by the SHCA were specific HR topics such as Performance Management, Team Development and Recruitment Practices. Complaints and Dismissal representatives from the Division Labor Affairs and Social Services provided important information on Civil Code Book 7A, specifically articles 1614 a through z.
