SINT MAARTEN/THE NETHERLANDS – His Majesty King Willem-Alexander met with the Ombudsmen of the Kingdom of the Netherlands on Wednesday afternoon, 30 October 2019.
It was the first time that the Ombudsmen had a joint conversation with the King. The interview was part of King Willem-Alexander’s visit to the National Ombudsman in The Hague. Since October 10, 2010 is the National Ombudsman also the Ombudsman of the Caribbean Netherlands (Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba (BES)).
National Ombudsman Reinier van Zutphen, Ombudsman of Curaçao Keursly Concincion and Ombudsman of Sint Maarten Gwendolien Mossel informed the King of the developments in their country.
They discussed the relationship between citizen and government and the challenges they observe. They also explained the role of their institution and the way in which they assist the residents in their respective countries with complaints against government.
The Ombudsman of Sint Maarten also informed the King of the recently finalized report entitled: ‘Home Repair. A revelation of a social crisis’. The King was also provided with a copy of the report as well as the complementary short film.
Ms. Sahaira Kelly was present on behalf of Aruba during the conversation with the King. She is preparing the establishment of the Ombudsman Bureau on Aruba.
The Ombudsmen of the Kingdom of the Netherlands meet annually. They discuss developments within the Kingdom and exchange knowledge and experience. Their last meeting was in January 2019.
