Party for Progress kicks off series of ‘PFP town hall meetings’ | SOUALIGA NEWSDAY

SINT MAARTEN (PHILIPSBURG) – Party for Progress (PFP) kicked off a series of town hall meetings last week with two community meetings in South Reward and Belvedere, respectively. Each community was invited to personally meet the candidates and learn about the party’s manifesto, which was published on Postulation Day under the title “Five for the Future: Transforming a Nation in Recovery,” which aims to improve the quality of life for all on St. Maarten.

On Tuesday, December 3rd, South Reward and Ebenezer were invited to the St. Dominic High School, where party leader, Melissa Gumbs, was joined by her fellow PFP candidates: Charlon Pompier, Patrice Gumbs, Raeyhon Peterson, Marvio Cooks, Michnella Eugenio, Michael James and Luciano Nicholls.

Those in attendance questioned the party’s plans for healthcare and tourism, with the candidates outlining the manifesto points of passing the BIG legislation for the registration of medical professionals and the finalization of an actual tourism authority for the country.

The evening ended in discussing how St. Maarten can move away from the old style of politics and make way for honest, smart and respectful representation, something that PFP has already begun to do with its approach to campaigning and meeting the community.

On Thursday, December 5th, at the Belvedere Community Center, the party met with the Belvedere community, who shared their concerns regarding housing and the state of the road through Dutch Quarter, which has been in a deteriorated state since the stalling of the sewage project. PFP expressed their plans to focus on improving infrastructure through policies such as the Road Fund and required drainage policies with building permit requests.

The next PFP town hall meetings are scheduled for: Middle Region/Defiance (D’Region Bar (Across from Samuel Grocery – Dec 9), Cole Bay/Cay Bay (Peterson Plaza – Dec 11), Point Blanche (Lazy Lizard – Dec 17), Hope Estate/Guana Bay (Senior Citizens’ Recreational Center – Dec 19), Cay Hill/Belair (Fleming’s Café – Dec 20), St. Peters (Rupert Maynard Community Center – Jan 4), Sucker Garden (TJ’s Cassava Coal Pot – Jan 5), Simpson Bay (Simpson Bay Community Center – Jan 6), Dutch Quarter (Dutch Quarter Community Center – Jan 7).

PFP encourages the St. Maarten community to visit www.pfp.sx follow them on Facebook and/or Instagram and become involved in their “Vision – Strategy – Action” movement towards improving quality of life for all on St. Maarten.
