SCDF submits engagement documents for SOAB audit | SOUALIGA NEWSDAY

SINT MAARTEN (PHILIPSBURG) – President of the St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) Alston Lourens on Friday submitted engagement documents to SOAB to facilitate an audit by that intuition with the SCDF.

Lourens said the SCDF over the years, despite its difficulties financially, has always cooperated with any government and/or any government related entity when it comes to being open with its finances and operations.

He explained that every year the SCDF submits its financials as required by the subsidy ordinance. The foundation receives subsidy every year, “so obviously we submit our financials every year as required,” Lourens said.

Lourens had to go the extraordinary route to try and get his board together during their annual summer break with their families (on island and abroad) to go over the SOAB documents and give him permission to sign and submit.

“I would like to thank the members for taking more time from their families to get this done. We work on Carnival year-round, with only a short break in June/July. Our members sacrifice personal time with family to organize Carnival.

“Not many people understand what it takes and how much time it takes. Our families are very patient and understanding and for that we are grateful,” Lourens said.

Lourens has already met with the Minister of Tourism Stuart Johnson and SOAB representatives about the audit and assured that SCDF will cooperate. “Like we always do,” he concluded.
