SINT MAARTEN (PHILIPSBURG) — Last Sunday, Caribbean Toastmasters held the 2020 Speech Contest for Division E. St. Maarten national Daisiray “Tracy” Lake (Area 30) won the International speech contest. Lake is a member of the SXM Achievers Toastmasters Club.
Lake competed against Cheryl Dangleben-York (Area 29) and Miguel Henry (Area 31). Dangleben-York secured second place for the Soualiga Corporate Toastmasters Club. Miguel Henry secured a third-place win for Cobraced Toastmasters Club.
The annual event featured speeches for the humorous, table topic, and international speech categories. Former Division Director E, Mrs. Helen Cristina-Romeo served as chief judge. Area Director Eartha Cassius (Area 32) chaired the contest. They ensured the event played out in accordance with rules laid down by Toastmasters International.
As the segment winner, Daisiray “Tracy” Lake will advance to represent Division E in the upcoming District 81 Speech Contest. There she will compete against six other Divisions which consist of 180 clubs and 7,800 members. The winner of the District 81 Speech Contest will represent the Caribbean during the Toastmasters International World Champion of Public Speaking contest.
While among her fellow Toastmasters from across the Caribbean and guests, Advance Communicator Lake thanked all the participants, her speech mentors and friends for their support. She further thanked her home Toastmasters club, the SXM Achievers for the opportunity and their dedication towards her growth as a leader.
The SXM Achievers Club, which has been in service for 12 years, prides itself on adding creativity to its activities. The club meets every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month at the Asha Stevens Hillside Campus in Cay Hill, St. Maarten.
