The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset Launches Tablet Drive | SOUALIGA NEWSDAY

SINT MAARTEN (PHILIPSBURG) – With the government’s announcement to implement online learning for the 2020/2021 school year, which commenced on August 10th, The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset embarked on a mission to provide much needed tablets and laptop computers to underprivileged students in support of online learning.

Supporting basic education and literacy is one of Rotary’s key areas of focus and Rotary clubs worldwide have collaborated on numerous projects to improve basic education and increase literacy worldwide. Rotary Sunset strongly believes that every child deserve the right to an education; however, with the sharp increase in Covid19 cases locally and government’s decision to implement online learning, most students are unable to attend school because of the lack of a computer device. Thus, Rotary Sunset embarked on an initiative to provide tablets / laptops to underprivileged students from various public schools who are most in need.

The club is asking the general public and the business community to join in its efforts by either donating a new or used tablet / laptop in good working condition, or by making a monetary donation towards the purchase of a new tablet. Persons willing to make monetary donations of any kind can do so by making a deposit or transfer to Rotary Sunset’s WIB USD Account number- 82173909, WIB NAF Account number-82173806. A contribution of US$ 100.00 will secure the purchase of 1 tablet and ensure that a child in need will get the opportunity to attend classes with their fellow school mates.

All tablets and laptop devices will be distributed to the various public-school students, where the need for such devices is the greatest. The distribution of these devices will be coordinated through the various student care coordinators from each respective school. The club’s goal is to ensure that no child is left behind, and all students are able to continue their education safely online.

Rotary Sunset would like to express its heartfelt gratitude to the general population and the business community for their kind contributions thus far. The club would also like to encourage persons, who are in the position to assist to contact any club member or contact the club directly through its social media pages as well as via email at This email address is being protected from spambots.
