Victory Temple COGOP Honors their Pastor, Dr. Michael Greenaway | SOUALIGA NEWSDAY

SINT MAARTEN (COLE BAY) – Under the theme “How High is Your Aim”, the congregation of Victory Temple honored the educational accomplishments of their pastor on Sunday, October 27th.

Coordinators Dianne Greenaway and Mrs. Ruthmilda Patrick-Solomons, the Women’s Director, rallied the congregation to keep the celebration a surprise for Bishop Michael Greenaway, who in May of this year received a Doctor of Ministry from the Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts.

“It was a 10-year journey that would not have been successful without the support of the church’s top leadership, and the congregation which flourished even in the often absences of the aspiring student. This being clergy month we were determined to give honor to whom honor is due.”

Special invited guests included, Prime Minister (Interim) Wycliffe Smith, who acclaimed the honoree as “his friend and counselor;” past president of Parliament Sarah Wescott, who reminded him of his often calls to her that were “an encouragement during her leadership;” president of SMUMF, Pastor Orlando Wilson, who presented him with a certificate of appreciation as a past founder of the SMUMF organization; and members of the COGOP Spanish sister church, led by Pastor Ivetti Hodge.

Significant visiting guests, highlighted for they are peers of the new Dr. Greenaway, were Dr. Bishop Melroy Meade of Montserrat, who was the speaker of the event, and Dr. Bishop Samuel & Malita Daniel of Anguilla. These three men all serve in high offices of the church within the Leeward region to date. The attendance was over 300 persons strong, made up of friends to the church and the Greenaway family who have been ministering on the island for more than 35 years.

Dr. Bishop Michael Greenaway in his response to the convocation cited the third stanza of the hymn “I must have the Savior with me” as a testament to the faithfulness of God who has brought him this far in life. I must have the Savior with me, In the onward march of life, Through the tempest and the sunshine, Through the battle and the strife.

Sharing the moment with Annetta, his wife of almost 50 years, Dr. Greenaway expressed thanks to the leadership and congregation of Victory Temple for the spectacular event and offered that though he had desired to have a celebration earlier in the year, illness precluded it from happening. He stated however, that he could not have executed the celebration as well as it had been done, and expressed great pride that his legacy of leadership seemed well set in place for him to go into this second phase of his life.
