PHILIPSBURG:---- In the early morning of Thursday, March 2nd, the Dutch Caribbean Coastguard intercepted a lot of drugs and firearms on a vessel. The radar operator of the Rescue and Coordination Centre of the Coastguard detected a suspicious contact south of Curaçao. A unit of the Coastguard base in Parera was immediately launched from the sub-station in Parera. At about one and a half mile south of Daaibooi Bay, an unlit vessel type yola was detected. There were four (4) people on board. After a search on the board, a lot of drugs and also six (6) firearms with ammunition were found. All of the four (4) persons, three (3) of Venezuelan and one (1) of Dominican nationality were detained immediately. They were brought up, together with the vessel, drugs, and firearms to the sub-station. The vessel was confiscated. The four (4) suspects, the drugs, and the weapons were handed over to the Police. The case is further in the investigation.
