PHILIPSBURG -- In a previous article posted on June 12th, 2017, it was stated that for the first time in history, St. Maartener Shemar Deion Bute was scouted to play at a Division 1 University.
As a Ministry, we would like to state that the information presented was erroneously mentioned as we’ve had many students attend and play at D1 Universities. The Ministry, through the Department of Sports has recognized many athletes and would like to continue to do so. If there are any athletes who are doing well or who have done well in their respective sport and are being impactful, they should contact the Department of Sports and provide the information accordingly.
The Ministry will continue to develop an archive of athletes and to ensure its accuracy we welcome any and all information pertaining to athletes current and past who have been signed with Universities and or teams on all levels, sectors and countries. The Ministry continues to encourage our athletes to work hard and dream big within their respective sport, and we will continue to highlight our students/youth at home and abroad in an effort to recognize our youth doing good, whether academically, artistically, or in sports, as a source of inspiration to current students.
