~ Board seeking donations from the general public to relocate.~
PHILIPSBURG:--- The board of the Philipsburg Jubilee Library is busy raising funds through various fundraising events to relocate to a safe and workable location and also to safeguard their materials while the Council of Ministers has decided in a recent meeting to withhold the issuance of $500,000.00 in insurance funds from the organization. The much-needed funds could have been used to relocate to a safe location pending the repairs or reconstruction of the present facility.
PJL is currently celebrating their 95th anniversary while they opted to use social media to raise the much-needed funds. SMN News has learned that the Council of Ministers do not have a roadmap for the future of the PJL as it is not included in the World Bank Trust Fund for rebuilding.
Recently, the PJL, Simarc and the St. Maarten Heritage Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to merge and work under one roof, this was done with the expectation that this project would have been included in the World Bank Projects.
To the disappointment of the organizations, they were informed by the Council of Ministers that there are no funds available for them since their project was not included.
Clearly, the Leona Romeo Marlin cabinet is only working on projects that might generate a kickback for politicians and are not working on projects that will benefit the community and its youths.
