PHILIPSBURG:— The management of St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) finally decided to relieve an incompetent anesthesiologist they had hired from Ukraine even though they had received a report of incompetence from the Inspectorate in March 2016. SMMC is still contesting the Inspectorate in court even though they know the foreign specialist couldn’t read or speak English or Dutch and that he was incompetent.
According to information received the Ministry of Public Health conducted the screening when SMMC requested an establishment permit for the anesthesiologist at the time the Minister of Health Emil Lee issued the Ministerial Decree even though the advice from the department of education was negative.
SMN News learned that the anesthesiologist intubated a patient last week in the esophagus instead of the airway. According to well-placed sources, the anesthesiologist identified as Dr. Danyltsiv accused another staff member of the operating room (OR) for the malpractice which caused a brawl inside the OR.
Based on the latest development SMMC chose to relieve the anesthesiologist immediately from all duties prior to his contract expiring.
The staff at SMMC has been complaining about a year now that the anesthesiologist in question is incompetent and also arrogant. SMMC management ignored the complaints and the report and advice from the Inspectorate. They even took the Inspectorate to court.
