PHILIPSBURG:--- As part of the Pre-St. Martin Day events, the Department of Sports has been hosting various sporting events. This weekend, October 28 and October 29th, in collaboration with #SXMSTRONG and the various sporting federations, a #SXMSTRONG Knock-Out sporting tournament will be held at the Raoul Illidge Sport Complex. The sporting events will commence at 9am. Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer and Dominoes will be on the line up of sporting events. The Guardian Group approached the Department of Sports with their willingness to assist with the tournament. They provided a team in each sport, being played this weekend, with athletic shirts as well as donated the trophies for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. On Friday, October 27, 2017, representatives of Guardian Group visited the Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, Silveria Jacobs to represent the Minister and the Department of Sports with the donation. Minister Jacobs thanked the management and staff of Guardian Group for their generous donation and hope they will continue to support and assist in the rebuilding of St. Maarten.
