Lorenzo became the fifth Atlantic hurricane of the 2019 season on Wednesday morning and strengthened to a major Category 3 storm on Thursday. It’s the third major hurricane of the 2019 season. The storm is not forecast to impact land. As of 6 a.m. Thursday, Lorenzo was located about 915 miles west of the southernmost Cabo Verde Islands. The storm was moving to the west-northwest at 15 mph and had top sustained winds of 100 mph. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days.
