PHILIPSBURG:— Chris Johnson, head of the Representation of the Netherlands in Sint Maarten made a donation on behalf of his office, to the K1 Britannia Foundation.
“Since the hurricane, the organization and our projects have grown a lot. However, sufficient funding to keep all programs running has been a challenge to find. We are very thankful for the donation of the Representation of the Netherlands in Sint Maarten. This donation will help us, to help those who are in need.” expressed, Priya Thirumur, co-founder of K1 Britannia, who received the donation on behalf of the foundation.
The donation is promised to go where most direly needed – within the various projects executed by K1. Established on Sint Maarten in 2014, the K1 Britannia Foundation focuses on a variety of charitable projects on St. Maarten. Many of their projects are focused on rehabilitating troubled youth and children who are victims of abuse.
Two of the foundations main priorities at the moment are the ‘UK apprenticeship program,’ which aims to give a second chance to young offenders, by sending them abroad for an apprenticeship program. “Here they are given a fresh start, in a new environment that is conducive to growth,” the foundation explains. The first youth, was send to England in April, to follow a one-year boatbuilding and maritime program. The foundation is proud to report that according to his supervisors the youngster is doing extremely well.
Secondly, the foundation has been in need for funds towards their main office. Since, their office was badly damaged during the storm, the foundation decided to move to another location. The new office, which is larger, will be able to facilitate many of their programs in-house such as workshops, trainings, tutoring and more – many specifically geared towards vulnerable youth. To fully function, the office is in need of some repairs and additional equipment.
Johnson: “The K1 Britannia Foundation’s projects touch many within the community of Sint Maarten on a daily basis. The Representation of the Netherlands on Sint Maarten is happy to support their efforts.”
