PHILIPSBURG:— On Saturday morning the Joint Rescue and Coordination Center (JRCC) of the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard received a call of a lifeless body afloat in the Simpson Bay lagoon. An alert kayaker had seen the body floating in the water near the south side of the snoopy island. The JRCC immediately contacted the St. Maarten Coast Guard substation and the Police department and a SuperRhib crew consisting of Coast Guard officers along with two policemen were dispatched to investigate.
The doctor and the forensic team were also informed and came to the Coast Guard substation. The lifeless body was discovered in the given location and was lifted out of the water and taken to the substation. The person was a male of 57 years of age of South African origin.
The doctor and forensics did a post-mortem examination on the body and established no sign of foul play. When all was done the body was taken and transported to the funeral home. His next of kin will be informed. We wish the family of the deceased strength with their loss and may he rest in peace.
