PHILIPSBURG:— Lion Dr. Carlisle Goddard, PMJF, District Governor of Lions International Sub-District 60B, recently made his annual official visit to the St. Maarten Leo (Alpha) Club, St. Maarten South (Omega) Leo Club, and the Sint Maarten Lions Club.
A welcome delegation of Sint Maarten Lions Club President, Lion Felix Richards, Zone Chairperson 2B Lion Oralie Boirard, MJF, Past District Governor Lion Wally Havertong, PMJF, and member Lion Dennis Lake greeted the District Governor upon his arrival.
His packed agenda included an enlightening radio interview streamed live on the “Viewpoint with Wendell Moore” show where he expounded on the responsibilities of a District Governor of Lions Clubs International and shared his experiences in visiting the Clubs in his District which comprises of 16 English and Dutch speaking islands including St. Maarten.
A courtesy visit was made to the President of Parliament, Hon. Sarah Wescot-Williams, during which the two leaders discussed the role of social entities in communities, partnerships with Governments, and the work of the Sint Maarten Leos and Lions Clubs. District Governor Lion Dr. Goddard also met with the Caretaker Government's Hon. Prime Minister Ms. Silveria Jacobs, who is an Honorary member of the Sint Maarten Lions Club.
During his guided tour of the island to view several service Projects, the District Governor had an opportunity to stop at the “Nature Nurtures” Project, an educational community service Project of the No Kidding with our Kids Foundation, which exposes youth to various aspects of agriculture.
In the evening, District Governor Lion Dr. Goddard held separate audit meetings with the Leos and Lions and engaged in lively, spirited discussions surrounding membership recruitment and impactful community service. He emphasized on the importance of being willing to embrace change in these times as members identify opportunities for more meaningful service to their community.
During the Meeting, Prospect Leo Lindell Wilson was inducted by the District Governor to the St. Maarten South (Omega) Leo Club, a proud moment for the Leo and his fellow Leos.
District Governor Lion Dr. Goddard commended the Sint Maarten Lions Club for their 53 years of service to the community and took the opportunity to congratulate Lion President Felix and the membership on the great work they continue to do on the island.
The Sint Maarten Lions Club has the honor of four active serving Past District Governors – Lion Maxime Larmonie, PMJF, Lion Harold “Wally” Havertong PMJF, Lion Claudius Buncamper, PMJF and Lion Claudio A. Buncamper, PMJF. In this regard, the Lions Den Meeting Room was renamed, using the initials of these Lions, to the “M.H.C.C. Past District Governors’ Room” in recognition of their leadership and dedication to the cause of Lionism locally, regionally, and internationally. A plaque was unveiled by District Governor Lion Dr. Carlisle Goddard, PMJF.
The District Governor’s theme for this Lionistic year is: “I Am because We Are” which focusses on the concept and Ubuntu spirit of family. Lions and Leos demonstrating the “Heart of a Lion” in their recommitment to each other and the community. In summary, remembering “who we are and why we serve”.
