PHILIPSBURG:--- A middle-aged man presumably a \"scavenger\" was killed on the Dump shortly after 11 am on Tuesday morning. SMN News understands that the man is a middle-aged man and he was rolled over by a garbage truck that was preparing to offload the garbage he picked up. Information reaching SMN News states that the man was on the Dump searching through the garbage when he was killed in a freak accident. It is understood that the driver of the garbage truck rolled over the man as he was reversing to offload. Eyewitnesses at the scene said that by the time persons on the dump called out to the driver of the garbage truck it was already too late because the back wheel of the garbage truck had already rolled over the victim.
On Tuesday, April 25th at approximately 10.25 a.m. police patrols, traffic department, Ambulance Department, Detectives and Forensic Department were sent to the Sanitary Landfill (Public Dump) for a serious incident where a man was rolled over by a truck and was not showing any signs of life.
On the scene, the investigating officers encountered the lifeless body of the man later identified with initials J.R. (58) who was a Dominican National. Witnesses stated that the victim was accidentally run over by a garbage truck with license plate Z-221 while reversing. Others tried to warn the driver of the victim being behind the truck but it was too late. The victim was pronounced dead by a medical doctor who arrived on the scene. Next of kin will be informed as the traffic department finalizes their investigation.
