PHILIPSBURG:— Member of Parliament Egbert Jurendy Doran made a courtesy visit to the office of the Sint Maarten Development Fund (SMDF) in order to obtain a better picture of the organization’s role in public funding to foundations operating on the island of Sint Maarten.
After going out into the various districts over the past weeks, and continuously seeing the urgent needs of the people, MP Doran stated, “I wanted to get a better understanding as to how the various organizations are structured. I therefore started off by visiting the SMDF in order to comprehend what exactly their role is in the community”.
MP Doran was heartily welcomed by the director Mr. Keith Franca, who gave him a thorough presentation of the SMDF’s history, objectives and its incorporation by the government.
The primary source of funding for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) locally, SMFD’s Senior Relief Project has successfully completed works to 25 homes that been destroyed by hurricane Irma.
MP Doran deemed his visit the SMDF as a truly fruitful and said that he was grateful to have gotten an understanding as to the organizations workings, and the manner in which they provide service to the people of Sint Maarten through its funding service.
Mr. Franca thank the young Member of Parliament for the interest shown in the organization and the people of Sint Maarten, and MP Doran in turned thanked him for the opportunity and promised to stay in touch in order to be updated as to the progress of the various projects.
