PHILIPSBURG:--- Minister of Tourism & Economic Affairs Stuart Johnson commends the organizers of the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta for presenting two expanded initiatives to its Regatta Village during the 39thedition of the country’s premiere sailing event that will be taking place from February 28thto March 3rd.
The Regatta Village will feature an EcoPark and ArtPark which will be open at the grand opening of the event at Port de Plaisance Resort, Casino and Yacht Club.
The ArtPark will be open to the island’s talented artists and craftspeople while the EcoPark will highlight the many local green and sustainability organizations and initiatives on the island.
“This is an opportunity for local crafters, artists to showcase their works to a large audience who will be attending the 39thedition of our premiere sailing event.
“The park also offers social-civic sustainable organizations to profile themselves and inform the locals, visitors and sailing community about their projects.
“This is going to be a regatta to remember and I am looking forward to it. Kudos to the Regatta Organizers for including these very important sectors of our Sint Maarten community,” Minister of Tourism & Economic Affairs Stuart Johnson said on Friday.
According to Regatta organizers, “The goal of these parks is to provide visitors and residents of the island with an informative experience during the Regatta while at the same time providing a location for local artists to showcase their work. Whether you’re a painter, sculpter, soap maker, recycler, water cleaner, or similar we will help you get your products and message out to the many visitors and locals to our event”, General Manager Michele Korteweg said in a recent regatta statement.
Applications are being accepted and will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all available spots and/or categories are filled.
There is a fee per 10x10 spot to cover cost of set up and tent. Spaces are limited, so it is advised to apply as soon as possible.
