PHILIPSBURG:--- “Music brings people together” a project by the National Institute of Arts, supported by the Nationaal Rampenfonds (Dutch Disaster Fund) has been launched successfully during the month of December in several primary schools and the St. Dominic High School. Youth Orchestra’s Director Mr. Neville James joined forces with the Band Director Mr. Connis Vanterpool and several musicians to tour the schools conducting 45 minutes lecture demonstrations, introducing the students to the different instruments to be incorporated in the Youth Orchestra (YO) “to spark their musical interest and curiosity to join the YO”, said the Director of NIA, Arlene Halley. The lecture demonstrations will continue in January visiting the remaining schools on the Dutch side of the island exposing students to the many possibilities of the Youth Orchestra. In addition, NIA will hold two auditions, one on Saturday, January 19 at the John Larmonie Center from 9 -11 am for students ages 8-18 with an instrument and previous music experience. The second audition is scheduled for beginners and aspiring musicians with no instruments and no prior experience, on Saturday January 26, also at the John Larmonie Center from 9-11 am. No registration is necessary. We kindly ask parents to accompany their children. For further information please send us an email at This email address is being protected from spambots.
