Police department expands bike team.

bikepatrol06032017PHILIPSBURG:— As part of the measures to increase safety and improve security in Philipsburg and surroundings, and also in those areas which are frequented by visitors to the island, the police department has increased the number of officers attached to the police bike team bringing the entire team to a total of 12 officers.
Flexible working hours have been put in place for the officers to get the necessary rest and making it possible that on a daily basis sufficient manpower is available to patrol Philipsburg
and other areas. This measure also allows more officers to be on duty during the peak business hours of the day and on those days when there are cruise ships in port.
The bike team has recently been very active in Philipsburg and will continue these activities in regard to regulating the flow of traffic in Front Street and Back Street, dealing with parking violations, towing of vehicles causing obstruction and unnecessary blocking and hampering of the flow traffic. Drivers in the Philipsburg area should take good note of this information to avoid any unnecessary inconvenience.
