PHILIPSBURG:—“I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Neville York who passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 9th, 2017. Our community has lost one of the greatest ambassador of our culture.
As head of the Culture department of the government of Sint Maarten, Neville York has chosen to invest himself with passion and great professionalism in the promotion of our culture, and in the development of the richness, traditions, and customs of our island. He had become the Mr. Culture of Sint Maarten and was a real encyclopedia of our collective heritage.
Besides these undeniable assets, I also wish to salute his musical sensibility and his great talent as a musician. He was a wonderful Steel pan player, and he was very proud to transmit his knowledge and his music to the younger generation. He is an example to follow for all of us.
On behalf of the elected members of the Territorial Council and the employees of the Collectivite of St. Martin, I extend my sympathy to the family of Mr Neville York, and to the government of Sint Maarten which employed him for years. His memory will always live on in our hearts.”
