BRUSSELS:— Prime Minister Leona Romeo-Marlin met with three Members of the European Parliament on Wednesday on her mission to Brussels. She met with MEP Esther de Lange, MEP Agnes Jonger, us and MEP Lambert van Nistelrooij. This meeting was a follow up on a commitment made between the European Parliament and European Commission to as much as possible treat St. Martin and St. Maarten on an equal level in their recovery efforts post Irma.
This position was recently stressed by State Secretary Raymond Knops and yesterday a letter to the European Parliament was sent that it is observed that the agreement has not yet been fulfilled. The Members of the European Parliament promised to stay on top of the topic as they aware that both sides of the island have European citizens and should therefore be treated as equals in these times of recovery after a disaster.
