It is with a deep sense of sorrow and personal loss that I received news of the passing of Mrs. Yvette Hodge Fleming Beauperthuy better known as Ma Fleming, in Miami today. It seems like only yesterday that I had the privilege to spend some memorable time with her on her 100th birthday last year and again when she not too long ago celebrated 101 years.
She was a good spirited, loving daughter of the soil who was a trailblazer, especially in the field of business on the island. A devoted mother, she considered all the young people of St. Martin as her children and grandchildren.
The whole island, North and South, has lost an icon who epitomized the best in St. Martin womanhood.
On behalf of the government and people of St. Maarten and on behalf of my family and myself I wish to extend heartfelt condolences to the entire Fleming family, friends and all the loved one that she left behind.
May her soul rest in eternal peace.

PRIME MINISTER OF SINT MAARTEN
William v. Marlin
