PHILIPSBURG:— On 18th November 2017, two containers full of post-hurricane Irma relief items were received and distributed among the three Rotary clubs on the Dutch side. Many rotarians, interactors, rotaractors, and volunteers were there to help open and sort the merchandise that was sent. One container came from Rotary Club of St. Catharines in Canada. It was organized by Lezlie Murch, a Rotarian of the club. The past president of the Rotary Club of Saint Martin Sunrise, Okama Ekpe Brook who was also in Canada at the time was a big part of putting the relief together to send the goods down.
Some of the things that were in the containers were clothes, toiletries, cleaning supplies, school supplies, canes, crutches, medical supplies, dry food items, sports equipment, wheelchairs, towels etc. The Rotary Club of Saint Martin Sunrise decided to help distribute most of the medical supplies as the president Damali Bryson and another member Yelena George both have medical backgrounds. The supplies were distributed between the Sint Maarten Medical Center and the Yellow and White Cross Foundation, which included wheelchairs and walkers.
The second container was sent from the Rotary District 7020. It included water and sanitary products.
The ROTARY CLUB OF SUNRISE SAINT MARTIN meets every Tuesday morning at 7am at the Gingerbread Café in Belair. Everyone is welcome to join.
