University of St. Martin Host Their Annual Puppet Show at the Philipsburg Jubilee Library

puppetshow04052017PHILIPSBURG:—The Philipsburg Jubilee Library (PJL) in collaboration with the University of St. Martin (USM) will be hosting their annual puppet show for children ages 4 to 10-year-old at the library on Wednesday 10th of May 2017, from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.

Five (5) aspiring University students (EDU 350 -Children’s Literature Class) were assigned by the University of St. Martin to prepare and execute this puppet show in front of a live audience as part of their teaching certification. The event consists of two (2) shows; Dr. Seuss’s “Green Eggs and Ham” and “ Anansi goes fishing”; and it will be performed by Jamila Ruan, Reshaline Carty, Lorraine Sweeney, Bianca George, and Maryland Powell.

Children on St. Maarten are not exposed to puppet shows often, which is unfortunate, as these puppet shows are effective in reinforcing existing knowledge and communicate new information through interactive performances.

That is our goal here at the Philipsburg Jubilee Library (PJL). On Wednesday, May 10th from 5.30 to 6.30 pm, we are encouraging all children to come out and enjoy our annual Puppet Show event.
