Father and son shot in Oyster Pond burglary

MARIGOT—A father and his 15-year-old son were shot during a burglary attempt at a residence in Oyster Pond in the early morning hours of Sunday, and both have received hospital treatment. In addition the family dog was killed with two bullets.

At about 1:15am four masked individuals, two of who were armed with a shot gun and a pistol, approached the house. Two waited outside while the other two rang the doorbell. The son went to answer the door thinking it was a friend and came face to face with the armed robbers.

The boy was immediately assaulted and thrown to the ground as was the father who came to see what the commotion was about. It was not clear if there was a scuffle between the victims and the assailants, or if the dog attacked, but bullets were fired. One bullet grazed the abdomen of the father while the son was shot in the left bicep by the shotgun

Both victims were treated in the Louis-Constant Fleming hospital but the son needed more specialised treatment and was flown out to Martinique at around midday on Sunday accompanied by his father. It was understood his life was not in danger.

Commandant Sébastien Manzoni clarified that the boy’s injury was more complicated and severe because of the distribution of pellets from the shotgun.

The Gendarmerie is investigating the robbery during which only a camera was stolen.
