The agreement brings SMMC into Vidanova’s growing group of organisations on the island whose pension plans are managed by the Fund.

SMMC CEO Dr. Felix A.C. Holiday, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vidanova Pension Fund Karel van Haren and Director of Vidanova Pension Fund Charlene Alberto were present for the signing.

Vidanova Pension Fund has historically been active on St. Maarten. Utilities Company NV GEBE was one of the founding fathers of the Fund, which originally served as a pension fund for electricity companies across the islands of the former Netherlands Antilles.

The Fund later expanded to other utility companies, allowing telecommunications companies TelEm and former UTS St. Maarten to join. Vidanova also manages the pension plan for the staff of the White and Yellow Cross Care Foundation.

SMMC’s staff will now also fall under the Fund’s pension plan. “We are proud to sign this contract with Vidanova Pension Fund,” said Holiday. “It is an important step for the future of our staff. We see a solid pension plan as an essential employment benefit for our healthcare professionals, and in Vidanova we have found a reliable partner for that.”

Van Haren said the Fund has maintained a strong connection with St. Maarten over the years.

“For many years, we have felt a strong connection with the island of St. Maarten,” said Mr. Van Haren. “Not only because we have had members here for years, but also because Vidanova actively invests in the local economy, including investments in TelEm and Princess Juliana International Airport. SMMC joining the Fund fits seamlessly with our mission to strengthen the financial future of employees on St. Maarten.”

Alberto said Vidanova is looking forward to working with SMMC. “We are very much looking forward to working with SMMC. The hospital’s staff dedicate themselves every day to the health of the community, and it’s our responsibility to give something back by managing their pension plan in a solid, future-proof way. Together, we are building an even brighter future for the hospital's staff.”

The signing took place in a pleasant, informal atmosphere at the hospital’s offices.
