PHILIPSBURG–The St. Maarten Police Force KPSM Special Robbery Unit arrested a man V.O.H., who is suspected of being involved in several recent armed robberies, on Wednesday morning.
According to police, H. is thought to have been involved in the attempted robbery of Rouge et Noir casino on October 17.
In that failed robbery, three armed men dressed in black hooded sweatshirts and wearing face masks stormed into the casino, threatened persons inside and demanded cash from the cashiers.
“The robbers were unsuccessful in their attempt to rob the casino because of the security measures that were implemented by the casino,” said police on October 18.
Unable to obtain any cash, the suspects fled on foot towards the Boardwalk Boulevard area. While officers were searching the area for the suspects, police received information about the car they were driving.
A police patrol spotted the vehicle on A.Th. Illidge Road in the vicinity of Over the Pond. When police ordered the vehicle to pull over, the suspects would not comply, leading police on a high-speed chase. Officers shot at the suspect vehicle in an attempt to apprehend the perpetuators, according to a press release.
The suspects abandoned the car near the Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Arch Road and fled on foot. Police were unable to apprehend any of the suspects that night, but they did confiscate the suspects’ vehicle.
Police are still investigating this case and request that persons who have any information contact police at tel. 1-721-542-2222 ext. 204/205 or the anonymous tip line 9300. Persons can also leave a message on the police Facebook page or its website
