MARIGOT–Ryan Halley emerged the winner of the Boer category at the sixteenth edition of the Ram Beauty Contest held in Colombier on Sunday.
Halley and “Billy Brown” took the 375-euro first prize. Francis Jacobs, who has been dominating this competition for the past few years, for once lost his winning streak and settled for second place with “Young Blood.” Third place went to Roy Lake with “Lakey.”
Halley also entered the Young Generation category with “Capricorn.”
The Nubian category saw Roy Lake taking first place with “Cash”, and second place with “Dan.” Third place went to Rudi Webster and “Military.” Lake accepted the first prize of 275 euros.
As usual, the rams on stage proved to be quite a handful to control for their handlers during the prize giving. Entries, somewhat down from last year, came from St. Martin, St. Maarten and Anguilla.
Locals and visitors enjoyed the ambience during the day with music by DJ Ruby and tasty local food on sale.
The event’s most loyal supporter President of Parliament Sarah-Wescot Williams was present and as enthusiastic as ever.
“I want to congratulate all the participants for keeping this tradition alive,” she told contestants. “You are all winners in my view. It can’t be easy to prepare for this and judges have a difficult task, but you come back every year. If you don’t win this year, try again next year, that’s what it’s all about.”
The contest was made possible by the Collectivité, Delta Petroleum, Belto Lake, Viper Service, Derek Lake, Polo Gas Station French Quarter, Aliane Bryan, Country Club Port de Plaisance, NAGICO, Zero Tolerance Security, Dean Hodge, and Alain Richardson.
