WILLEMSTAD–Former President of Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Maarten (CBCS) Emsley Tromp has appealed the July 13 ruling by the Court of First Instance in his financial termination case.
The plaintiff’s attorney Mirto Murray did not want to go into details. Tromp’s demand to prohibit a deduction of NAf. 110,282.59 from his December final pay-out was rejected. The amount had been part of NAf. 283,486.94 that CBCS paid to lawyers and fiscal experts for services to Tromp during the criminal “Safire” case against him for tax fraud.
Because he was suspected of the latter as a private person rather than in executing his function, CBCS felt it did not have to pay his legal cost based on the monetary authority’s statutes.
The damage claim for CBCS paying an amount for his pension too late and a request to have his end-of-year 2017 bonus paid were also dismissed.
Tromp was acquitted of – intentional – fiscal fraud and money laundering in the Safire trial, but the Prosecutor’s Office has filed an appeal.
