PHILIPSBURG–The final approval to start the urgent repairs to the Courthouse and annex buildings has been given by the Council of Ministers. This paves the way for much-needed repairs to the historical Courthouse that is also prominently depicted on the St. Maarten flag and coat of arms.
The Courthouse and annex were significantly damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria over year ago.
Prime Minister Leona Romeo-Marlin and Justice Minister Cornelius de Weever agreed “in principal” that the Management Board of the Common Court of Justice will execute the necessary repairs to both buildings.
One of the significant conditions is the necessity of the Management Board to maintain consultation and cooperation with the Monument Council.
